Around here, the words “Barrel-Aged Avarice” hold a certain weight. Since we released the first and only batch last December, no other River North beer has been so revered. So it’s no wonder that we look forward to December all year. And now it’s almost here…
The second release of Barrel-Aged Avarice is set for Saturday, December 7th at 1pm!
We’re as excited as you…
For this year’s vintage, we blended Avarice aged in of a number of different whiskey barrels, some of which were filled 14 months ago. We walked past these barrels every day, anxiously awaiting when they were ready to grace us with their contents.
Our patience paid off.
Rich, decadent and dark enough to suck the light out of a room, Barrel-Aged Avarice is perfect to warm your soul from the onset of the harsh Rocky Mountain winter. The robust dryness of the beer complements smooth oak and sweet whiskey notes from the barrels.
We bottles 105 cases total. As always, the lowest numbered bottles will be sold from the taproom starting at 1pm, and the beer will be on tap all day. While Barrel-Aged Avarice is delicious straight out of the barrels – a fact our brewers can attest to – it also ages exceptionally well in the bottle.
We hope you can join us December 7th to raise a glass of our pride and joy.
It’s that time of year…time to start breaking out our favorite barrel-aged beers!
This Thanksgiving weekend, we’ll bring back another classic. Whiskey Barrel Quandary will return Saturday, November 30th at 1pm in the taproom!
For the 2013 vintage, we aged Quandary solely in freshly emptied rye whiskey barrels. The spicy bite those barrels lend is the perfect complement to the sweet malt character of Quandary.
In total, we bottled 105 cases. Individually numbered bombers and draft pours will be available at the release. As always, the lowest bottle numbers will be sold in the taproom, with the remainder hitting shelves the following week.
We look forward to seeing our Locals, regulars and friends at the release, to catch up over a fine barrel-aged beverage.
Up next in our holiday releases: Barrel Aged Avarice! Stay tuned…
A long time ago, when we were still just a fledgling little brewery, we acquired our first two oak barrels, one formerly used for whiskey, and one for chardonnay. In the spirit of experimentation, we loaded both with J. Marie.
At the time, we thought (hypothesized?) the chardonnay barrel would provide the most natural complement to our signature farmhouse ale. And while that beer was mighty tasty, the whiskey J. Marie blew us away with its flavors of tropical fruit and toasted coconut, instantly earning a place in our hearts as a house favorite.
And now it’s back!
This year’s batch of Whiskey Barrel Aged J. Marie will debut on Saturday, November 16th at 1pm in the taproom. For this version, we blended J. Marie aged in separate rye and bourbon whiskey barrels. The resulting brew has notes of toasted oak, coconut and fruity esters, finishing with a spicy bite from the rye barrels.
Ninety-one cases were bottled, but we expect our taproom allotment to sell out quickly. While whiskey J. Marie is delicious fresh out the barrel and will be on tap all day, it also ages nicely. More bottles will hit stores the following week.
If you’re one of the many regulars who have been clamoring for another release of this brew, mark your calendars. If you never tried J. Marie aged in whiskey, come see why we love it so much.
